Just off Andrássy. Although pricey, they are often fully booked, so reservations are advisable, although jacket and tie are not necessary. Average 4,500 HUF per entrée. At 8 every night the waiters put down their serving trays and burst into song, with renditions from the classical repertoire of the 19th century. This is only fitting, since the restaurant is right across from the Opera House.
Evening meals also include an operatic performance by professionals, accompanied by a salon orchestra. Although the balcony view is less delightful than that of the main floor, during the song hour at least you can hear each other’s conversation there. The food comes labeled with the appropriate themes, i.e., Tournedas à la Rossini, Opera Steak, and the like. Basic English is understood.
